Artist's Description

Continuing my love affair with New York city.... I really need to go back some day and get fresh photos. This particular scene does not really exist - though it is based on a couple of photos I took in September of 2002. As vast as the city seems from the ground, it does have very real boundaries. For this piece, I wanted an impression of an endless expanse of buildings.

I find the idea of a city that has no physical limits both facinating and disturbing. Remember the city from Blade Runner? How about the capital city in the Star Wars movies? Imagine a city that just kept expanding to fill all the land. In such a world, where does one go to get away from it all? How does such a civilization generate food for the population? With all the land taken, what happens to the people born each day? Does the city start growing higher, or does it start going further underground? How is energy produced? Can people in such a world be happy, or is depression the norm?
